Uplift.
I found very powerful meaning behind my new favorite word “uplift”, which truly captures what I’ve personally tried to do throughout my martial arts and personal coaching career. “Uplift” is needed more than ever because it seems we are living in a time where people go out of their way to tear others down. Perhaps the energy could shift on how we could lift each other up instead. In doing so, I believe everyone wins.
I have read that acts of kindness releases the same amount of endorphins as when you exercise. So when you work to uplift other people, the “feel good” chemicals are released into our system making you feel really good. On the other side, one could argue that you bringing someone down makes you feel better about yourself, which is exactly what bullies do.
The choice is yours, do you want to uplift people to feel better, or do you want to bring people down to feel better. Hopefully you choose the path of uplifting. Now, sometimes it is not easy, but I think we all could agree that anything worth doing takes effort.
So When confronted with a situation, please ask yourself if what you are going to say will “uplift” or hurt the other party. Are you positively or negatively contributing to the conversation.
Personally, no matter what happens, I will always choose to uplift others.
