Important advice to small business owners.
If you are a business owner, what is your greatest asset? Is it your clients and customers? I don’t think so, but of course they are very important. Is it your offering? Again, definitely important, but not the number one. Is it your product? I don’t believe so but of course, it needs to be top notch. If you ask me what the most important, it is your team/staff/employees. Why, because they are the ones that are going to implement the vision of the business, which often times is your vision.
Therefore, the greatest asset in any small business is the team. And it is really important to treat them well and appreciate them. Not just in compensation, but actually showing appreciation.
I say this because this past week my wife and I had the opportunity to take ten members of our team on a week long trip to to a beautiful all inclusive trip to Mexico. They worked tirelessly during the pandemic and it was our way to show them deep appreciation for their efforts, because we all know it was a team effort for sure. I am happy to say it was amazing for everyone, and our team got much closer because of it. One of our program directors said it best, “I loved everyone before, but after this week, I love them even more.” So I challenge all the business owners out there to do something big for your team, something special, something out of the box, and I promise you it will only strengthen the bond with the people who support your vision the most. Our trip was by far one of the best investments we ever made into our business, and couldn’t have done it without such an amazing team.
Now, of course, we are planning next years corporate retreat, but in Punta Cana!
As my partner Paul Melella says, “Treat your clients like your family and your family like your clients.” I’m going to tweak it a
bit to say, “Treat your team like your family, because they are.”
