This is a question I often reflect upon. How could we make more of a difference and be positive contributors to society? Do we have to have to fill an arena like Tony Robbins and inspire over 10,000 people in one shot? Do we have to be a political figure that aligns with your values? Or do we need to be one of the billionaire philanthropists to make the difference? I believe the answer is no.
I think it comes down to a grassroots approach. Meaning, the most effective way to make an impact is by living a great life, being an example to the values you live by, and a positive and energetic person. To be the bright light in the eyes of others when they can only see what’s going wrong. Why, because we are in the trenches of life, and while we're at Starbucks grabbing a coffee, and make the barista smile, and those waiting on line to laugh, we made more of a difference than imaginable. Why, because for that moment of time, they were happy, and for some, that may be a difficult accomplishment.
That is why whenever I am at a checkout line, I will never be on my phone and always giving them 100% attention. I make it a personal challenge to make them smile or laugh, many times at my own expense. And if they have a name tag, I will thank them by name. It’s simple, powerful, and extremely meaningful for the person who is helping you.
In this life, I believe we are all equal, no matter what car we drive, where we live, what we wear, we are all human beings and it is our God given responsibility to uplift anyone and everyone we come in contact with. That is how I believe we could make a massive difference in the lives of others. I love the quote, “It cost nothing to be a decent human being,” and I sure believe we could use this in a time when I see many people having a hard time seeing positives.
