The benefits of getting older.

So I was talking to my wife and we were laughing that since turning 50 I have had to go on extra vitamins and now have a pillbox like my parents used to have, I’ve had to get a colonoscopy which was super fun and by the way, a real quick way to lose 5 pounds, and then just this week I found out that even though I had Lasik surgery, I now need glasses to read and to see far. In my mind I’m thinking what the heck is going on? What happened? Where did the time go? Anyone else feel this?

I’m not complaining, and I’m definitely not having a midlife crisis but as I was hiking I reflected on the positives of getting older.

…. and my biggest realization was the fact that I reflect.

In other words, throughout most of my life I was working hard, training hard, raising a family, working in and on businesses, trying to accomplish goals, and kept looking forward to what needed to be done that I rarely had time for self reflection.

Now that I am older, I find myself thinking and reflecting much more and it actually invigorates me. Why, because I could see myself growing more in the near future than I ever have done before. And that to me is super exciting.

So for all of the folks like me in their 50s, it is our time to shine (Not only physically, because don’t rule out an old guy because we could still play the games), but mentally and spiritually because this is, when I believe, we start finding our stride.
