Must Do Life Hack
A number of years ago I interviewed my father to capture the most important moments of his life. We did three extensive interviews culminating to about five to six hours of recorded conversations. This weekend I was on my way to the JFK airport stuck in traffic for over two hours and was allowing my iTunes playlist play through and his interview popped up. I have to say, it was absolutely priceless and not only did the two plus hours fly by, I was laughing hysterically in my car listening to the conversation. When I would ask a question, he would say, “Why would you ask me such a weird question,” then he would talk about it for fifteen minutes or so. I got to hear his voice, hear our interaction, and listen to his special moments for a very enjoyable traffic filled drive.
For those who are in my generation, and our parents are getting older, I strongly recommend you take the time to interview your parents. It will be a legacy piece that you could pass on to your children so they could learn about your parents. It also is important that we, especially as we get older, take the time to document what’s important to us so we could hand it down to our children, and children’s children. This is a sure way to allow our legacies to live on for generations. Please consider to think about taking the time to interview your parents and then, when you are stuck in traffic, it will be as if they are driving with you. Needless to say, it was very special.
