How good are your goals?
For the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing some tidbits on goal setting. We are now just about three weeks into the new year and I am sure the enthusiasm of the goals set on New Years Day may be wavering. Is that the case? Got to stay strong folks!
One of my personal goals this year is to complete the Adirondack 46er which is hiking the 46 mountains over 4000 feet in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY. I’m doing the adventures with my long time student Master Matt Tracy. This weekend we drove up in -5 degree weather, stayed at a local spot and hit the trails with the temperature in my jeep registering at -25 degrees.
The temperatures were definitely extreme but what do you do? Do you not go out? Do you stay warm? Well, we did go out because we were very prepared with warm weather gear and equipment to handle ice and snow. We successfully completed the two peaks we set out to do and are now 24 peaks from hitting our goal.
I share this to challenge you about your goals. See, a good goal should excite you and scare you at the same time. This is exactly what we both experienced. The exhilaration and excitement of climbing a mountain in sub-zero temperatures was also extremely scary. The beauty of working to be become a ADK 46er is there are short term goals…peaks…that lead to the big goal of earning the 46er patch. It is exciting and scary at the same time!
I hope your goals exhilarate you and make you nervous, because if they do, you’ve got yourself a great goal! Crush your 2022!!!
Happy living!
