You need to keep the main thing the main thing!
This statement holds true more than ever as we live in the world of constant distraction. Smart phones have been both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because you literally have the world at your finger tips. A curse because you are always connected and pulled away from what you are doing.
Many times people ask me how I get so much work done in a short amount of time. The answer is simple, I keep the “Main thing the main thing.”
When I have a task or project to do, I disconnect from the rest of the world and only focus on what I am doing.
Do people get annoyed at me? Absolutely.
Do they get the auto text, “Could I call you later?” Absolutely
Do I get back to them later? Mostly. (Only if I want to)😂
Really, it’s the only way to get things done that need to be done. Entrepreneurs, business owners, professionals are not compensated by the hour. They are compensated by results. If what needs to get done, doesn’t happen, people who depend on us won’t be able to provide for their families. A responsibility I take very serious.
Soooooo, here is what I have done to stay productive:
1: Turned off all notifications. Every time the phone beeps: my attention would turn to what I am missing rather than what I am doing
2: Communicate to team: (life team as well). I would let me team know that I am working on a project and to protect me from distractions, and understand if I don’t respond. (I should do this better)
3: Plan my objectives. I would start whatever it is I am doing with a clear outcome of what I want to accomplish
4: Take a break: when I have a task that is over an hour, I will set a break up to clear my mind and then get back to it.
5: Learn to say “No”: This is the hardest word to say because by nature, we don’t want to let anyone down. It’s especially hard because you are saying “No” to the person who is reaching out to you at that time. However, you have to because it is absolutely essential to protect your time and make sure you are doing what needs to get done.
There you have it. Five tips I personally use to stay productive and get the most out of my time. I do believe that time is the most valuable asset we have. The question is will you spend it wisely or let it waste away. The choice is yours.
