What is Empathy? Empathy is through the eyes of another.

Everyone has a story. I have a story just as you have a story. My story is very different than your story and I have no clue what it is live in your shoes. I don’t think as you do, I don’t feel as you do, and I don’t see what you see. What I do know is that we need to show empathy and genuinely caring. I could feel for you when you hurt, I could listen to you when you need and allow you to explain to me what you see. Based on what you share, I could then empathize even if I don’t agree. Hmmmm, interesting concept, huh?

I do believe that there has been a lack of empathy in our society as of late. It doesn’t seem that many people care what another sees, how another feels or what it’s like to live in another shoes. It seems there is more focus on what an individual has to say, how loud they could say it and to defend their belief at all costs.

A very wise man once said, “When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.” The wise man is the Dalai Lama

I hope more people listen and find the ability to learn something new by empathizing how another feels. I believe we need this more than ever in today’s world. Let’s do our part.
