What is an investment?
I was in a seminar a while back and my old partner Rick was working to sign people up for a group coaching program. He said to the group, :The coaching doesn’t cost a cent”. I was watching on the sideline very concerned and thinking, “What the heck is he doing! How in the world could he that he give away our very labor intensive coaching program for free”. He then continued on and said, “It’s an investment not a cost, and this investment is one that will give you a great return.” I was thoroughly relieved and thought what he said was amazingly put and completely accurate. As a result, a lot of the group opted in for coaching and we provided a life changing experience for all.
I learned a valuable lesson that I already knew, but had forgotten. The difference between an investment and a cost. An investment is an item such as money or time that you put into something that will yield a return. For example, clients purchased a coaching program and in return, learned the tools to improve their business and life.
A cost is an item such as money or time you put into something and get nothing in return. It’s interesting how the most successful people in our society tend to invest in themselves via coaching, reading, training and overall personal growth. I just read today that the top CEO’s of the world invest the time to read 60 books a year. The return is endless.
