The most important business value.
If you were to ask me 20 years ago what it takes to be success in business, I would say hard work, dedication, commitment, passion, vision and all the values one would associate with what it takes to succeed.
If you were to ask me today, I would say two values…kindness empathy. Of course, the others are important, however, I’ve learned that when you live with kindness and empathy, success is inevitable.
People will want to do business with you when you are kind and feel good when they are around you and your organization. Kindness is invaluable and must be done…people will refer you business and you won’t have to go hunting like most businesses have to do.
With empathy, people will want to work with you. There is nothing more powerful than seeing yourself through the eyes of others, especially those you work with. You form a strong connection and everyone experienced growth together. This is why I don’t believe in the statement “it’s not personal, it’s business”. When someone says that, they forget that it is people who actually run businesses.
I hope more and more people put kindness and empathy at the forefront of their business…and the more who do so, the better our society will be. Which is something I believe we all need more than ever.
