Is your mind a filter or a sponge?
I have been thinking a lot about mindset lately and reflecting on the difference between happy and unhappy people. I think I discovered an analogy that simplified the difference.
Unhappy people treat their minds like sponges and absorb whatever is thrown their way. Their on social media, watch reality tv, news and have an influx of information that they are constantly allowing to enter their minds. Of course, this is exasperated by social media. Many times they absorb whether they agree or disagree. They absorb the information like a sponge sucks up water, and allow it to enter their minds with no filter, causing them to get upset.
Happy people treat their minds like absorption filters. They will absorb the information they choose and filter out what they don’t want to hear. This allows them to stay happy and not get upset because they are not allowing negative information to effect their mindset. It doesn’t mean they aren’t aware, they consciously choose to not allow certain things to infiltrate their minds. As a result, they live happier and more stress free lives.
A good friend once told me that I keep my head in the sand and a blind eye to certain issues…..but I’m a really happy person. I would agree in some ways. I wouldn’t say I keep my head into sand, but I would admit that I don’t give energy to things that don’t energize me. This allows me to stay positive and focus on things I have control of and I could make a positive impact.
