When I was 15 years old, I was selected to compete in the 1985 US National Sports Festival in Baton Rough, Louisiana. It was an event that inspired me to work really hard to be an elite TaeKwonDo competitor. I went to the event and came back with a boat load of experiences and a clear vision. When I saw my instructor after, he said to me the reason why I was able to go was because I worked so hard in my training. He than said this exact quote, “What you put into your training is what you get out of it”. This has been a theme I have worked to apply in my own life as well as those I coach and teach.

Of course, what may vary from person to person is the “IT”. For me, it was TaeKwonDo training, then it was the relationship with my wife, having children, running martial arts schools and UMAC, Empowered Mastery, mountain biking, mountain climbing, raising funds for LLS, or anything in my life. The same goes for you. The energy you put into anything you do, is what you will get out of it.

I hope as the holidays come, you choose to put a lot into your family and relationships, because you will get life long memories out of it. Another way to hold yourself to high standards is by putting all your attention to what you are doing at the moment. This way you are maximizing your energy and reaping the rewards of your efforts. Happy living!
