I’ve always ran my business through relationships and have done everything I can to keep it that way. I hear the term often, “It’s not personal, it’s business”, even when it directly effects someone personally. Empathy is one of the most important values one must have to be an effective leader. When they have empathy, things will never be, “Just business”. Now does this mean that I don’t have difficult conversations? Or I haven’t had to let people go? Not at all. I have had to let people go who I care about and I’ve had to have stern conversations with people I respect. It’s just that I have always put relationships as a higher value because it is people that ultimately run my businesses. Without them, I could not do what I do and they could not do what they do without me. It is a true team effort!
