Awareness

One of the greatest aspects of martial arts training is an increased level of awareness. We teach and practice to be aware of our surroundings, aware of a threatening situation, aware of proper distance and timing, etc. However, even more important is being aware of your thoughts and feelings. This is not something that could be initially taught in classes but could be experienced through strengthening your mind. This is exactly why more people should train.

See, true awareness comes with the ability to not identify with how you are feeling. For example, if you are “feeling” depressed at a moment does not make some depressed. If someone is “feeling” angry does not mean they need to take anger management courses. True awareness is the ability to NOT identify with what what you are feeling at a moment. It is separate and you never take ownership to negative thoughts and feelings. You disassociate and carry on. This is essential in living a peaceful existence. Especially when almost everyone is currently living in fear with the Corona Virus.
