A childhood friend Craig Gustavson and I are having a friendly competition. We have both started working out at Team Moljo’s a while back and we both have been working hard to benchpress our own body weight. Me personally, I always focused on more “Outdoor” activities like hiking, mountain biking, running, snowboarding and anything else I could do outside. Of course Taekwondo training as well but that is a given. Soooo, my upper body strength has never been my focus….until now. We have a very serious life altering competition going on. Whoever could bench their body weight first, has to buy the other a dinner at the restaurant of their choice. We’re even going to have weigh-in’s at the day of our competition.
This friendly competition has definitely intensified. I asked our coach, Steve Sabella, ”OK, now what do I need to do to bench my weight and beat Craig”. (Yes, I’m a little competitive…and so is Craig). He said, “300 Push-ups a day”, and my response was, “Crap!”, because I really don’t like pushups. Yes, since he said that I have been doing 300 additional push-ups a day on top of my Taekwondo training.
My point is not the push-ups, however to make the growth that you are working towards fun. Craig and I are great friends having a great time with this personal challenge. I am grateful for the fun. Advise for you, find an area you want to grow and make it fun. You could find a partner to challenge you, you could set daily goals and crush them to get you towards the bigger goal. You could accomplish goals and reward yourself. This relates to personal, business or any area of life you are working to excel in. What matters most is that you are driven and enjoying the drive along the way. All that said , I finish with a public note to Craig…You better step up your game because I’m on it!!!!!
