Are you easily offended?
Have you ever taken the time to assess and compare your outside voices with inside voices? The voices on the outside refer to outside influences such as other people, news, social media, or even circumstances that effect how you feel on the inside. The voices on the inside are the ones you listen to which ultimately dominate your actions. Make sense?
For example, someone says something to you and you get really angry. The outside voice you heard effected the inside voice and most likely triggered a reaction. Kind of what happened at the Oscars in case you haven’t heard about it yet. This is especially magnified by social media. Have you ever seen someone get angry by what someone else publicly posted? Or has it happened to you where you got offended? If so, the outside voices controlled you.
I was once told that when you have the inside voices overpower the outside voices in your life, you have achieved self-mastery. This is actually a high level of awareness where you are not effected by what others say and are able to stay centered no matter what the circumstance. To me, this is the most difficult in training, and I personally work on it everyday with meditation, training, spending time outside, and doing things I enjoy.
I challenge you to allow your inside voices overpower any outside voice you hear and not let others effect how you feel. I cannot tell you how liberating and freeing it is.
