The key to productivity!
I have learned the key to productivity is time protection. Think about it, for the professionals out there, you will certainly block out uninterrupted time when you meet with a client or have a meeting, right? Teachers, you will never allow interruptions when you are teaching a class, correct? However, when it comes to our own personal time, we allow endless interruptions that pull us away from what we are doing? Could anyone relate to this?
What I have found to be most effective is to be much more intentional with my time. When I have a project, I will schedule the time to work on it in my calendar and protect like it was a client meeting or teaching a class. This means, I turn off my phone, eliminate my distractions and just focus on whatever craft I am doing.
You could also do this when around your family as well. Many of us, including myself, may find ourselves looking at our phones ignoring our loved ones. The same strategy could apply. Block out the time with your loved ones as if you were with a client. Grandmaster Paul Melella said it best, “Treat your family like your clients and your clients like your family”.
Soooo, when you have something you want to get done, be sure to schedule it and make it the most important item to do at that time, because it is.
Happy living!
