Why I hike in the rain?
Many people ask why I will hike in adverse weather. My answer is simple; why not! The way I look at bad weather is that I need to be stronger than my environment. Don’t get me wrong, I love to hike when it is 60 degrees out and blue bird skies and very much look forward to those days. However, if I only hiked under those conditions i probably would never hike.
When it is a beautiful day, I love it. When it rains, I love it. When it snows, I love it even more. The harder it rains or snows, the more I love it. Why, because it is preparing me for something bigger.
Let us put this in business-ownership terms. When the business is running smoothly and all is good it is just like hiking on a beautiful day. When you experience a setback in your business, it is the same as hiking in rain, we handle the situation. When have major disruption in your business, it is like hiking in the harshest of conditions.
My point is that life is unpredictable and we just need to be able to handle the good with the bad. Adverse conditions are going to come and go in all aspects of life, how we handle them is what defines our success. That is why I live by one of my brother John’s favorite sayings, “Embrace the suck”. It helps us continue to challenge ourselves to be comfortable while bing uncomfortable; which is the key to growth in life and in business.
