Paul Melella and I just came back from spending three days in California with our Taekwondo Grandmaster. He retired recently and moved to CA so he could continue his training. We spent our time hiking, training, having tea and eating wonderful meals. It was a trip that we will both remember for a lifetime. During tea, Paul and I mentioned that we have been inspiring our clients and students to practice meditation. He gave us a wonderful suggestion on how to get started that I am very happy to share with all of you.
First, everyone should start meditation at night before bed and finish when you wake up in the morning. Mediation at night allows the brain waves to slow down giving you a more restful sleep. You go to sleep and as soon as you wake up you finish your meditation. It is not the amount of time that matters, it is the continuous meditation from night to morning. The more you do it, the more you’ll need it in your life. I promise you.
Here’s the real benefit that Grandmaster Kim shared with us. He said to ask yourself this question for your nighttime meditation, “If today was my last day on earth, how did I live my life?” Did you fulfill the promises you made, say I Love You to those you care about, etc. If you did leave some stones unturned, make the commitment to fix it the next morning. This is a powerful reflective meditation that holds you accountable making sure you are living the life you choose.
The morning meditation will have a different question to ponder, “If today was my last day on earth, how do I choose to spend it?” This will set you up for a very meaningful and impactful day because you will value every moment you have. This will endure you are living your best life possible.
Could you imagine how great your life will be when you follow this meditation? I have already shared this with a couple of my clients and they are pumped about it. Personally, I have already added these questions to my daily meditation and am loving the clarity it gives me. Go ahead and try it and be sure to let us know how it goes. Happy meditating!
