Why did you become a salesperson? How did you get into the industry? Was it your first job out of college? Did you follow your father, mother, relative or friend? Or perhaps like me when you graduated college you saw an ad in a newspaper that promised ‘Rewarding career, be your own boss, unlimited income’ Or was it the only job you were offered? (also like me) I would venture to say most of us didn’t plan on being a salesperson.
When we were young and were asked ‘what do you want to be when you grow up? How many of us said ‘I want to be a salesperson?’ It’s just not a profession that we consciously chose. Even nowadays besides the common answers, of athlete, musician, doctor, lawyer, kids often say ‘I want to be an entrepreneur’.
So why are you a salesperson? Or better yet, why are you STILL a salesperson? It can’t be because you love rejection can it? It’s not an easy career especially in the beginning where you’re struggling just to pay the bills. If you’re like most, you’ve thought of quitting so many times. Being a salesperson is extremely stressful. Among the many negatives are:
- Restless nights
- Roller-coaster of emotions
- Too much down time
- No steady income
- Work nights
- A lot of driving
- Rejection, rejection, rejection
And that’s not even including all the times you’re ignored, hung up on and stood up by your prospects and clients; and that could just be in one morning! But you haven’t quit. You’re still here. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a rookie you do have what it takes to succeed. So let’s focus on the positive. I LOVE Sales
